For 3 days now, I've been feeling pain on the right side of my lower abdomen when I sleep at night. During the day, there is no pain at all. What could be the problem and what should I do?

Dr. Salim Saab Otolaryngology (ENT)
It could be an ovarian cyst, so an echogram of the pelvis might be necessary to determine if that's it.

Pain in the abdominal region may find its origin in the organs located there or also may be radiated towards the abdomen from other parts of the body. This condition may be generalized or localized based on the factors causing it.
Most of the time it's nothing serious, but watch your symptoms carefully and monitor how long the pain lasts. Anything that seems out-of-the-ordinary should be checked out by a doctor, However, if your abdominal pain gets worse when you lie down, it is most likely due a form of heartburn or indigestion, there are other serios causes like ovarian cyst ,diverticulitis or endometriosis or a fibroid, appendicitis,if this is the case you must see a doctor for a blood test and ultrasound or ct scan if needed.
>OVARIAN CYST may cause an abdominal pain worsen at night ,different positions, such as laying down, turning side-to-side can place different stresses on the cyst causing it to hurt more or less.
>Heartburn is characterized by a burning sensation or discomfort after eating and it typically gets worse when you lie down or bend over,It occurs when stomach contents occasionally back up into the esophagus.
>Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease is a condition where stomach contents leak backward from the stomach to the esophagus, causing frequent heartburn
>indigestion is a vague feeling of discomfort in the upper abdomen during or right after eating, according to the NIH. It can be caused by overeating, eating too fast, drinking too much alcohol, eating spicy or greasy foods and stress, among other things. This lower abdominal pain can occur when the stomach is unable to digest food, which is the stored in the intestine, resulting in a bloating sensation, along with pain.
>appendicitis, due to bacterial or viral infection is also one of the factors for abdominal pain and cramps. This pain is usually dominant in the lower right side of the abdomen. This condition needs prompt medical attention
>other causes might be an intestinal problem
