The frequent side effects of magnesium supplements are nausea, muscle twitches and abdominal spasms. They are known to cause heart palpitations and breathing problems if magnesium levels in blood go up abnormally. Hypotension, sleepiness, distorted vision and diarrhea are other common side effects of magnesium supplements. However, it is uncommon to get headaches and slowness after such a low dose of magnesium!
