Dr. Youssef El Bitar Orthopedic Surgery
Pain in the lower back can due to multiple problems. The most common cause is muscular in nature which needs rest, some pain medications and some kind of rehabilitation (physiotherapy, exercise). However, some causes for low back pain are more complex and need evaluation before starting any treatment. Evaluation includes imaging (xrays with possible MRI), occasionally nerve conduction studies with EMG, and of course being examined by a doctor (orthopedic surgeon, neurosurgeon, neurologist, family doctor...).
The sports that can be practiced are basically any sports that do not hurt your back. Try warming up and stretching for 15-30 minutes before any kind of sport and see how you feel. If the back feels fine, start your sporting activity slowly and increase the intensity gradually. If you feel fine, you can continue, if not, you need to stop and see a doctor as I indicated previously.
