On brushing teeth twice or three times a day: Can toothpaste be harmful to the teeth? Is there any alternative?
Mar 24, 2013

Dr. Jeff Khoury Dentistry
Brushing 2 to 3 times per day is recommended. The problem is not with the toothpaste but with the way you are brushing. You don't have to be aggressive while brushing otherwise your gum will recede and have what is called gum recession.

1- You should brush your teeth twice a day not more.
Overdoing things is like underdoing them
2- Yes, some toothpastes, like the whitening ones are agressive and abrasive and can harm your teeth.
Avoid commercial ones. Try not to use the (Whitening) ones and research for the new products without SLA
3- Always use an electrical toothbrush to preserve your gum and teeth
It controls your brushing pressure and movement giving you a better and safer result

You can brush your teeth 10 times a day and still not get them clean.
you need to learn how to properly brush your teeth in order to reach the hidden places where food and bacteria accumulate.

considerations:
1- choose a tooth brush marked "soft". soft brushes get in between teeth and under the gum easier to clean the debris without harming your gum.
2- make it a point so that the head of the brush covers 2-3 teeth only.
3- put a tiny amount of toothpaste on the brush (not as they do in commercials)
4- avoid using water mixed with the toothpaste for a better result.
5- avoid gargling and washing away the toothpaste afterwards.
6- using an electrical toothbrush or a manual one amounts to the same if you know how to use them correctly.
7- brush your teeth for 3 minutes covering all the areas (posterior teeth, and lower frontal ones)
8- finalize the entire process by flossing.
