Is it normal to feel a lot of pain during menstruation? What are the best things to do to relieve the pain?
Oct 13, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
If regular pain killers (like paracetamol, paracetamol-codeine "Solpadeine", and ibuprofen) are not relieving your menstrual pain, you can use Ponstan. Also avoiding certain foods during that period, like chocolate and fatty foods, and minimizing coffee (or anything with caffeine) intake, can help, because these items increase the uterine contractions and inflammation that produce the pain.
If you're still in too much pain, you need to see a gynecologist for evaluation of a possible underlying condition; it could simply severe menstrual pain (medical term dysmenorrhea) that can be treated with oral contraceptive pills.
