How can I help a depressed friend who doesn't accept medical treatment or assistance?
Mar 12, 2013

Dr. Jean Esso Anesthesiology
Get him involved in some exrecise programs for few weeks, typically three 45 minutes session a week. Group-based programs should be considered with support from an appropriate instructor.

The degree of depression is also important to know. If he thinks of committing suicide, it is important to convince him that he needs to be treated by a specialist, as soon as possible. And get a relative that he trusts involved as well, it is a risky situation.
You can also explore the reasons why he doesn't want assistance (or treatment, as you say). Is it because it is taboo? Then tell him that depression is not about "being weak" but a disease per se.
