What could be the reason of a 39 degrees fever for once every 2-3 days with no sign of infection for a 4-year old girl?
Apr 2, 2013

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Fever of unknown origin (FUO) is a very wide spectrum of factors that produce an elevation in temperature without an obvious focus. In children, it is most likely an infection, and Brucellosis, Salmonellosis, and Toxoplasmosis should be rules out; some viruses may also be responsible. Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is fairly common in our region, so it is a probable cause as well. It is also important to note if there's any weight loss to refute other more serious causes. Bottom line is, the child must be seen and examined by a pediatrician who based on the thorough history and exam will order a comprehensive battery of tests to make the accurate diagnosis.
