Swelling arm from iv with pain
Mar 3, 2013

Dr. Jean Esso Anesthesiology
The IV fluids may have infiltrated which means they didn't stay in the vein but leaked into the surrounding tissue, leading to the swelling.
It might also be some bruising from the multiple trials.
If you see any redness at the site, it might be infected, a condition called superficial phlebitis. Call your health care provider if you have signs and symptoms of swelling, pain, and redness.
