Should I circumcise my newborn son?
Feb 21, 2013

Dr. Ivana Dabaj Pediatric Neurology
According to American academy of pediatric task force on circumcision, the benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh the risks. Specific benefits from male circumcision are: prevention of urinary tract infections, acquisition of HIV, transmission of some sexually transmitted infections, and penile cancer. It does not affect penile sexual function or sensitivity. The important is that it will be directed by a well trained person and that it will be done in a sterile technique.

Dr. Dina Helou Pediatrics
This is still a very debated issue, and also there is evidence that the benefits of circumcision outweigh the risks. The benefits are not great enough to recommend universal newborn circumcision.
Some medical conditions require circumcision, and are usually detected by the pediatrician.
In all other cases, the decision is left to parents to make, according to their religious, ethical and cultural beliefs.
The most important thing is to circumcise in good medical conditions and by a physician trained to do it.
