Is there any relation between asthma and flu ?
Dec 2, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Flu, or influenza, is a viral illness caused by the Influenza virus; it mainly affects the respiratory system (nose, sinuses, throat, lungs) but may have other manifestations involving other organs (muscle and bone aches, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches). In individuals with asthma, any respiratory infection, including influenza, may precipitate an asthma exacerbation or asthma attack, and these individuals are more prone to contract respiratory viruses because of the ongoing inflammation in their airways (this makes their immune mechanisms which usually defend the body against foreign materials less robust).
