Dr. Rania Mousa General Medicine
There are many causes for numbness in arm and fingers ,and to know the cause you must see a doctor to make clinical exam beside some tests or images if necessary.if it begins suddenly, particularly if it's accompanied by weakness or paralysis, confusion, difficulty talking, dizziness, or a sudden, severe headache you must go to emergency, if you have no other symptoms other than the numbness in arm and fingers with no weakness, confusion, difficulty speaking,or the numbness is not in your feet too .....then i suggest that you have a nerve compression affecting a certain nerve such as the ulnar nerve or radial ,or nerve compression in the neck that is causing the numbness ,see a doctor for further clinical diagnose
-Numbness in a hand is usually caused by damage, irritation or compression of one of the nerves or a branch of one of the nerves in your arm and wrist.Nerve entrapment syndromes, these include carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve palsy, peroneal nerve palsy, and radial nerve palsy
-Diseases affecting the peripheral nerves, such as diabetes, also can cause numbness, although this is often preceded by similar symptoms in your feet.
-Rarely, numbness can be caused by problems in your brain or spinal cord, although this is usually accompanied by weakness or loss of function in your arm or hand. Fortunately, numbness by itself is only rarely associated with potentially life-threatening disorders, such as strokes or tumors.
Your doctor will need detailed information about your symptoms to diagnose the cause of your numbness. A variety of tests may be needed to confirm the cause before appropriate treatment can begin.
Possible causes of numbness in one or both of your hands include and depending each on other accompaying symptoms also alcoholism, systemic diseases, Vitamin deficiencies. Vitamins E, B1, B6, B12, and niacin are essential for healthy nerve function, toxins infections, injury or fractures,
