the short term complications of the sleeve would be pain and sometimes infection at the wound site. then you may have the nutritional and vitamins deficiencies for which supplements are routinely given. Later, reflux symptoms and feeling of food or gastric juice going up the throat. Some people may develop stricture or narrowing of the gut size or leakage from the place where the stomach was stapled. problems with bone metabolism and gall stones have also been associated with these kinds of surgery. some people may start gaining weight after 3-4 years of the surgery. These are not common complications and they can be prevented or managed early if there is close follow up with the doctor . It is always advisable before deciding on any surgery for obesity to sit down with the doctor and analyze the benefits and the side effects and do a rational decision.
