Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Is the fever still reaching the same peak, or has this peak been decreasing since Thursday? Has your son been examined by his pediatrician? With persistent temperature elevation (meaning the temperature is still spiking on a daily basis to a high-grade fever of at least 38.5 degrees, measured rectally) in a 5 and a half years old child, we should entertain the possibility of an indolent infection, such as pneumonia, sinusitis, or a urinary infection, though the CRP is not very much elevated in your son's case. As such, the best thing to do is to have your son examined by his pediatrician for a better assessment; the plan of management will be determined according to the detailed history of symptoms and the findings on the physical exam.
