Dr. Bassem Tanios Nephrology
There are many reason for kidney pain, such as kidney stones, urinary tract infection, urinary tract obstruction... etc. And sometimes the pain attributed to the kidney might be simply musculoskeletal pain or gastro-intestinal or gynecologic in origin. Based on the information provided and since kidney stones are common in the general population, what you are experiencing might be secondary to a kidney stone, since it is typical to appear as sudden pain over the flank which usually radiates downwards, and it may be accompanied by urinary symptoms such as pain upon urination ( dysuria) and blood in urine ( hematuria) which might be only apparent in a urine test.
I advise you to seek medical attention, as a urine test is necessary and imaging of the abdomen and kidneys such as ultrasound or CT-scan to look for kidney stones or any other reason for your pain might be necessary.
