Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Aptamil 2, as compared to Aptamil 1, has a higher content in proteins (1.6 grams versus 1.3 grams), and the protein content is more based on casein (the solid component of milk protein, 1.3 grams in Aptamil 2 versus 0.5 grams in Aptamil 1), whereas the protein content in Aptamil 1 is more of whey protein (the protein found in the fluid part of the milk or المصل; 0.8 grams in Aptamil 1 and 0.3 grams in Aptamil 2). Aptamil 2 also has a higher content in carbs (7.8 grams versus 7.4 grams in Aptamil 1), but has a slightly lower content in fats (3.1 grams versus 3.8 grams in Aptamil 1). These differences combine to provide the same amount of calories (66 Cal per 100 mL), but as the baby grows, it is thought that providing more proteins and carbs will better satisfy her appetite, especially when the source of proteins is caseine rather than whey, and help in supporting the baby to prepare for weening gradually. But please note that these more of commercial claims that are not firmly founded in scientific evidence. So essentially the difference between 1 and 2 formulas is not that significant. Again, stick with what your pediatrician instructs you to do, and if you have any concerns, bring them to him/her.
