Is it normal after having my regular meals that i feel tierd with a high heartbeats rates ?
Aug 2, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
The process of digestion, which involves enzymes and stomach muscle contractions, by itself involves energy expenditure, thus the heart will have to pump more blood to the gut today meet those demands, so the heart beat should increase a little, not too much though. The normal resting heart rate for a healthy adult is 60-100 beats per min (being on the low side in athletes). Anything that exceeds this value at rest I'd considered tachycardia (fast heart rate). Organic causes include dehydration, anemia, thyroid gland hyperactivity, caffeine or tobacco effects. Stress and anxiety could also induce it. There's also an entity known as Inappropriate sinus tachycardia (IST), a syndrome characterized by unexpectedly fast pulse at rest, with minimal physical activity, or both. Other associated symptoms including palpitations, weakness, fatigue, dizziness, or near syncope (near loss of consciousness). Increase in heart rate occurs excessively with minimal exercise and heart rate recovery is prolonged. IST has no known underlying cause.
