Is flavored milk good for a 2 year-old kid? Can we replace regular milk with a flavored one? What are the differences between the two types?
Apr 30, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
The problem with flavored milk is that it contains a good deal of sugar and artificial flavors, so as pediatricians we do not encourage parents to substitute regular milk with flavored milk, because and as you may be very well aware, the fact that it contains a lot of sugar makes it a risk factor for developing diabetes on the long term. You could add unsweetened cocoa to milk and add a bit, but not too much, sugar. As such, you would be making sure that your child is receiving his/her needs of milk even if he/she dislikes the taste of regular milk, so you would be solving this issue without having to resort to highly sugary drinks.
