Is cerelac healthy for babies? Empty calories? What is recommended instead?
Jun 30, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Cerelac is a good choice for introducing cereals into your baby's food regimen, starting with rice, then later on wheat with or without addition such as fruits. Deeming it as empty calories is a harsh description I would say.
Of course home-made foods are always the best choice since they are served fresh and do not undergo excessive processing. So what you can do is boil rice in water and mash it; later on you could add some milk to it (like rezz b7alib), or boiled and mashed vegetables. The same can be done with wheat: boiling and mashing, then blending with mashed fruits for instance. Of course preparing these foods can be time consuming and sometimes unpractical especially that they have a short half life (because they do not contain preservative substances - but they can be safely stored in the freezer for a couple of days).
