I have a mole that has some hair growing out, should I be worried about it? can I pluck them trim them?
Feb 5, 2013

Dr. Wissam Chalhoub Family Medicine
Moles containing hairs are not usually worrisome. Nerverthless, the presence of hair does not rule out an eventual malignant mole (like certain melanomas at their early stages).
Plucking hair from a mole may cause a local irritation. It is better to avoid it although there is no medical evidence showing its association with an increase risk of malignancy transformation of a benign mole.
Trimming hair with scissors is acceptable yet not a definite solution.
Surgical removal remains the ultimate option providing at the same time a diagnosis of the mole nature (benign or malignant).
