How soon will hiv symptoms appear Nd what are the first signs? Could they appear in less than 1 week?
May 24, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Active HIV infection symptoms do not manifest this early after exposure. It takes a minimum of 3-4 weeks for symptoms to appear, and in the majority of cases, there are no overt symptoms but mostly subtle. AIDS symptoms usually mimic flu symptoms, with generalized fatigue, runny nose and so forth. If you have engaged in unprotected sexual intercourse with a person whom you suspect may have HIV, you will need to do blood tests for HIV, and hepatitis B and C (these two viruses can also be transmitted sexually) in 3-4 weeks (not prior to that, otherwise the test results may be false negative).
