Dr. Helene Abyad Pulmonology
If we are talking about COPD wich it is a chronic obstructive inflammatory disease of the lungs wich causes breathlessness, it is irreversible, so the lungs do not return to normal even after smoking cessation. But the good news is that stopping cigarette is always beneficial even after many years of smoking because it slows the loss of lung function to a level similar to that of non smokers. So it reduces symptoms and disease exacerbations.
