How do we get vitamin D when in the sun? Does it get into our skin or eyes? Would wearing a hat or sunglasses affect it?
Apr 2, 2013

Dr. Jinan Usta Family Medicine
The sun converts Vit D to an active form that is used by the bones of the body and helps in making them stronger. the conversion occurs in the skin and not the eyes and this is why doctors recommend exposing the body with bare skin (legs, feets and arms are enough) for half an hour each day to direct sun ( not behind a glass window or door)

Dr. Beatrice Khater Family Medicine
Wearing good sunglasses in the sun protects your eyes and does not prevent vitamin D formation (as Dr Usta explained)
