Hey drs. for many days i suffer heart palpitations which is causin also pain in heart area.normal ascultation and ECG. Im 25 m. should i do echo or sth else? Does EBV virus has anythn related? ThX
With relentless heart palpitations, we usually resort to a prolonged ECG monitoring to try and detect any heart rhythm abnormality (if any does actually exist). A detailed history of administration of any drugs or nutritional/fitness supplements is needed, in addition to eliciting family history for any heart diseases at a young age, and psycho-social history to rule out stress. Some blood tests, like a complete blood count to look for evidence of anemia, thyroid hormone levels to rule out hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland can produce such symptoms), and electrolytes (electrolyte disturbances, mainly calcium, can contribute to altering the normal heart rhythm) may be done as well. If all turn out normal, lifestyle changes (managing sleep hygiene, eliminating alerting substances from the diet like caffeine, energy drinks, alcohol) and reducing stress should be achieved; medication may be needed if lifestyle changes do not achieve symptom relief.
