I'm a 27 year old and I have been feeling my heart fluttering with a small cough afterwards for 2 days non stop. I did a heart echo 2 weeks ago and it turned out normal. What could be the reason?

Dr. Rony Shammas Cardiology
An echo doesn't usually tell you much about these palpitations. Most likely you are having either PVCs or PACs. These are extra beats that are generated either in the two small top chambers ( atria) or the two larger lower chambers ( ventricles) . The short brief cough you are describing is a fairly common complaint with these extra beats. In general these are usually benign and not indicative of a serious problem. Placing a monitor to know the exact type or these palpitations is one thing you can do. Avoiding all caffeinated beverages, tea products, sinus/decongestant medications and/or diet pills in addition to avoiding stress and getting enough sleep will help. A short course of beta blocker medications may also be prescribed if the above measures don't work.
