Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
An elevated red blood cell count and an elevated hematocrit in an otherwise healthy young individual usually indicate dehydration and/or chronic smoking. So unless you have particular symptoms, such as severe redness and itchiness of the skin after exposure to hot water, or associated abnormalities (elevation or decrease) in the white blood cell count or platelets, then it is not likely to be beyond what I have mentioned. The MCHC means the mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration. It measures the average amount of hemoglobin per red blood cell. As you may already know, the hemoglobin is responsible for carrying the oxygen in the red blood cells. Therefore, a low MCHC could be a sign of iron deficiency anemia.
Mind you, any lab test cannot be interpreted correctly without knowing the health status of the patient, why the test was done in the first place, any health problems etc.
