Has anyone heard of a probiotic supplement called vsl#3? It's been 3 years since my IBS diagnosis and I'm thinking of giving it a try. Any advice?

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Vsl#3 is composed of Bifidobacterium and lactobacillus, which we call "commensal bacteria", "symbiotic bacteria" or "friendly bacteria", needed to maintain a healthy digestive tract. These bacteria help ferment the partially digested food and help in the production of vitamins, namely vitamin K. It may be helpful in cases of IBS, where it was shown that a considerable number of patients with IBS do have an increased percentage of harmful bacteria in their intestines. As such, the administration of probiotics can help re-establish the balance of healthy bacteria in the intestines and thus hopefully reduce the symptoms of IBS. So you may want to give it a try, it is a harmless product in all cases.
