Dr. Nada Awada Family Medicine
cognitive behavioral therapy is important in treating anxiety disorders and it was recently found useful in treating ADHD.
Cognitive therapy examines how negative thoughts, contribute to anxiety because it is believed that your thoughts about a certain situation and not the situation itself cause anxiety.
Behavior therapy examines how you behave and react in situations that trigger anxiety. The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety is to identify and correct these negative thoughts and beliefs. The idea is that if you change the way you think, you can change the way you feel and the way you behave.
In ADHD, CBT aims to change irrational thought patterns that get in the way of staying on task or getting things done.It does this by instilling practical strategies and instructions to solve three of the most common ADHD problems: time management, organization, and planning, this can be done by simple instructions like wearing a watch , looking frequently at the time or keeping a detailed log of the day.
