What is the cause of black spots floating in my vision?
Apr 20, 2013

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
These are known as floaters, they exist in a certain percentage of the general population. If the symptoms are limited to this, then there's nothing to worry about. But if you're also seeing flashes of light, or your peripheral vision is affected, or the number of floaters increases suddenly, then you must see an ophthalmologist immediately.

Dr. Pierre Mardelli Ophthalmology
Seeing occasional black spots is quite normal. Many people experience them throughout their lives. Sometimes, though, it is a sign of a potentially dangerous condition. When you see a flurry of black spots or flashes, you must seek an ophthalmologist immediately, it could mean that your retina is about to detach from the back of your eye.

Regards,
Pierre G. Mardelli
