How can someone have white hair at age 23?
Jul 9, 2013

Dr. Judy Matta Pediatrics
Hair turns grey or white when the hair follicles fail to produce melanin, the pigment that gives hair its color. Starting to see white hair early can be due to:
- Heredity: if your mom or dad had white hair at an early age, you may be genetically programmed for premature graying.
-Thyroid problems: If your thyroid fails to produce enough thyroid hormone, you have hypothyroidism. One side effect of hypothyroidism may be prematurely graying hair.
-Vitamin deficiency : Graying hair can be a sign of Vitamin B 12 deficiency
