What are side effects of liposuction?
Apr 4, 2013

Dr. Paul Yazbek Otolaryngology (ENT)
Hello,
Depends on which area we are working on and how much is being taken out.
Usually, it is a safe operation with minimal side effects.
Paul.

Hello,
Liposuction is a relatively safe procedure. However, there still exists the possibility of minor or even severe complications.

Minor complications such as:
•unrealistic expectations
•Liposuction is not recommended for weight loss and will not produce any major weight loss results
•Skin irregularities can occur when too much fat is taken from one area.
•Hematomas and seromas under the skin
• hyperpigmentation in the areas of their incisions
•Swelling of the legs and ankles
•Bruising of the genitals is common in males and females after abdominal liposuction
Severe complications such as:
•blood clots
• injury to abdominal organs
•excessive blood loss
•allergic reactions to drugs
•cardiac arrhythmias
If general anesthesia, complications related to general anesthesia.
