Dr. Rania Mousa General Medicine
AS i told you in the previous question ,since the x ray is not in front me and i am relying of what you are describing ,i think what you describe especially if you are telling down to the end of the chest xray to be the upper abdominal part appearing in a chest x ray
When a chest x-ray (CXR) is done it includes a portion of your upper abdomen. Virtually everyone will have some normal volume of gas in there intestines and stomach (in the stomach it even has a name - the gastric air bubble). Much of this comes from air we swallow during the day and while eating. Some of the gas in the colon and small intestine is due to normal gas producing bacteria, so if no symptoms there is no worry and they are normal .
However in the presence of abdominal symptoms if the gas is much then it could mean and the doctor may order an abdominal xray if you have symptoms if not then NO WORRIES again since they may be normal gases as i mentioned before

cases of attention in presence of symptoms are :

Sometimes your intestines can become obstructed...usually this is from scarring inside (usually due to prior surgery) that traps the bowel loop. In those cases the intestine becomes dilated and is quite dramatic on the x-ray. Patients with this problem are usually quite sick.
Many people after abdominal surgery will have dilated air filled loops - this is called an ileus and simply means the bowel is temporarily stunned or paralyzed. After a few days the bowel starts moving again and returns to a normal caliber.
People who are lactose intolerant (milk sugars) will get some dilated loops due to gas producing bacteria. There are many reasons for increased air in your stomach and bowel - in an otherwise healthy person these are usually of no consequence.
