There are many diseases and other health conditions which can lead to a reoccurring, abnormal salty taste in the mouth. The more serious conditions which can cause changes to the way tastes are perceived also will have other, more serious symptoms which will probably be noticed first. It is also important to differentiate if the taste is truly salty, or if it is more metallic in nature. A metallic taste is usually caused by bleeding in the mouth or as a side effect of a medication. A salty taste on the lips, and in the mouth can have a wide range of causes, some very common, some very rare
Most occurrences of a constant abnormal salty taste in the mouth is linked to smoking, which greatly increases the rate of salivary gland infections.
Post-nasal drip is also very common and can result in a bad, salty taste in the mouth, especially that you feel a burning sensation in your nose ,you might have allergy or infection in the nose causing mucus to drip to the throat and go to mouth and stomach causing salty taste. also it is especially pronounced if the drip is caused by eye drops.
There are few medical conditions that could result in a salty taste in the mouth each have much more obvious symptoms that are noted first.
some causes are :
>Dehydration(causes high sodium in body and thus salty taste ) ,Colds, post-nasal drip, eye drops ,Smoking Diseases( Sjogren´s syndrome which can cause this effect. it is characterized by , dry, itchy eyes ),MS (have more serious symptoms ),An allergic reaction involving the tongue,...
you can check with an ENT doctor to know the source of your taste,
