The most common cause of acne breakout in the majority of the population is changes in hormone levels. What happens is that these changes in hormonal levels trigger skin glands, called the sebaceous glands, to secrete more oils (these oils usually serve to protect the skin from germs and keep it moist), which can lead to clogging of pores. If the skin pores are clogged, bacteria, found naturally on the surface of the skin, will overgrow. Both of these problems cause breakouts.
In males, there is a tendency for a hereditary factor for developing acne, mostly on the paternal side.
During the summer season, sweating can make the acne problem worse, especially after exercising. So washing up quickly after sweating is a good practice to minimize acne breakouts.
Here are a few practical tips to help control your skin breakouts:
1- Proper cleansing of your face: there are plenty of good products on the marker, but as a rule of thumb, stay away from facial washes that have beads in them, because they can irritate your skin.
2- Wash your skin twice a day. Dry gently by tapping with a towel that you only use for your face.
3- When choosing a facial cleanser, go for the products that are specially formulated for acne, which are usually based on salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. You may also choose to use anti-bacterial facial soaps.
4- Do NOT scrub your face and especially not your forehead where the acne problem seems to be most prominent. You need to be gentle while cleaning your face gently, otherwise you would be
causing trauma to the acne which may worsen the acne or cause scarring.
