Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Teething at this early age is quite rare (it occurs in no more than 10% of infants). But even so, teething in and by itself does not cause fever or diarrhea. Your baby could be biting her hands or the pacifier because she's in pain (tummy, due to diarrhea). The main concern in young babies is dehydration especially that your daughter is feeding poorly, so the fluids and minerals lost in the diarrhea are not being replaced properly. You need to have your baby examined by her pediatrician to assess the degree of dehydration by looking at the eyes, tearing, skin, and amount of urine per day. Stools exams (analysis, Rotavirus, and culture) are necessary to identify the cause of the diarrhea. Oral rehydration is a must.
