Dr. Karim Nawfal Obstetrics & Gynecology
Breast cancer can be hereditary.
A family history assessment is very important and sometimes it is important to do some genetic blood tests to assess if a person has certain genetic mutations that put them at higher risk of certain cancers (breast, uterine, colon, etc..)

Dr. Fadi Abbas Oncology & Hematology
5-10% of breast cancer can be linked to BRCA1, BRCA2 (breast cancer ) mutation genes, specially in patients with family history (2 degree parents= grandmother, mother, etc)
Usually as the person is born with this mutation, the breast cancer appears at an early stage (10 years earlier than the in the median of the general population (30 years-40 years), and they are usually what we call the basal type, and agressive in behavior . the test is done (blood test) to confirm it is genetic or not .. should be very prudent about the abuse of this term .. as it has very strict conditions, in order to speak about genetic (age, family, etc )

Dr. Salim Saab Otolaryngology (ENT)
Breast cancer is family dependent; also certain persons who had genetic mutations will have breast cancer.
