I was diagnosed with vocal chord dysfunction. If I stop smoking, will it fix it? What's the most recommended treatment?
Mar 14, 2013

Dr. Jihad Achkar Otolaryngology (ENT)
Smoking is definitely a factor. Any irritant, smoking, chemical smells, sometimes perfume, will cause your symptoms to come on. The recommended treatment is aggressive reflux control with Proton pump inhibitors twice per day and H2 blockers at bedtime for three months. Also, breathing retraining exercises by a voice therapist, alongside treatment, works great.
