I did an HIV test 3 months post exposure and came back negative should i be relieved? Can i continue my life normally without testing and worrying sick for a false negative test? (Plz answer me clear)
Nov 6, 2013

Dr. Nehme Raad Urology
After HIV infection, the body develop what is called antibodies.
Those antibodies can be detected in the blood starting 3 weeks after the infection (= window period).
After 3 months, there is detection of those antibodies in 97% of cases.
So a window period of 6 months is rare.
But if you want to be 100% sure, some suggest repeating the test at 6 months of the exposure.
Finally, it is very important to use condom when having any type of sexual intercourse since this is the only way of preventing sexually transmitted diseases.
