30 years
My sister, 30 years old, has nausea , vomiting, and diarrhea. What to do and how to treat it?
Aug 9, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Anti-emetic medications (that decrease the nausea and vomiting) such as domperidone or metoclopramide are needed. After taking the tablet by 20-30 minutes, frequent sips of an oral rehydration solution must be attempted as tolerated.
Regarding the diarrhea, it is necessary to replace the fluid loss as indicated above. Currently, a restricted anti diarrheal diet needs to be followed: Laban (with added salt), labneh, boiled potatoes, steamed rice, and bananas.
In case the patient does not tolerate drinking fluids (meaning vomiting recurs and she cannot keep anything down) then she might need intravenous fluids in the hospital.
If fever occurs, there might be a need for antibiotic treatment, but this should be determined by the treating doctor.
