Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
If you get recurrent herpes gingivostomatitis (herpes infection of the oral cavity and lips), you will need to take oral acyclovir on a regular basis. But you need to make sure that this is actually herpes prior to deciding on the treatment, because oral lesions are not all herpetic, they could be aphthous ulcers (also known as canker sores), which if keep recurring, you need to be tested for diseases that are known to cause recurrent oral ulcers. For this purpose, seek medical attention in the doctor's office (a general M.D. or a dermatologist can take care of such case).
