No, there iS no transfer of the disease, however it has been found by statistics that children of bipolar parent( or parents) are at increased risk of having the disease compared to children of parents who do not have bipolar disease.children with one bipolar parent have a 4-15% chance of developing the disease ,while for children with 2 bipolar parents the risk increases to 40%. Despite the genetic role , prevention can help in decreasing the rate of the disease in children: general health is very important: normal sleep patterns, a healthy diet, regular exercise, and the avoidance of drugs and alcohol.
