Regulating
your baby's sleep patterns and teaching him/her healthy sleep habits, with her
brain still developing and along with it his/her sleep-wake cycle, will require
being consistent with your strategy to guarantee results:

  1. Set a clear daily routine: make sure that you keep your
baby's daily routine consistent, this will help make bedtime without conflict. So the plan is to set a specific time for the following activities and stick to it every day: napping, eating, playing, and going to bed. You may want to have her play shortly before bedtime; as such, she’d be exhausted by the time when she should sleep and will fall asleep without a struggle.
  1. Make her feel the liveliness of human activity during the day, and calmness and quiet at night. This will help your baby develop
her inner clock and realize the difference between day and night.
  1. A simple and not too long (no longer than 45 minutes) bedtime
routine, like a warm bath, a
nappy change and then into her night clothes. A tummy massage, a lullaby or story etc. These should be done in the bedroom where your baby sleeps. Keep that bedroom warm and pleasant. This routine should last no longer than 45 minutes. A good baby bedtime is usually between 8.30pm to 9pm; if you wait till after that, she's likely to get overtired and fussy which will make falling asleep a hassle.
  1. It’s OK if your baby cried out for a bit – not for too long though, but DO NOT leave her alone to cry for as long it takes before
falling asleep. So what you need to do is put your baby in the crib and if she cries, go to her, pat her gently and tell her everything's fine, but it's time for sleep. Be gentle, but firm. Leave the room. Wait for a set interval, anything from two to five minutes, then check again. Do this repeatedly until she falls asleep, extending the time between each visit.
  1. Have your husband help you in providing comfort to your
    baby: hold and cuddle her
