Dear dr just need to ask you if i can open the pradaxa 75mg capsule and dissolve the content in water and give it in the peg to a patient that is having dyphasia and cannot swallow the whole capsule
Breaking, chewing, or emptying the contents of the capsule can result in increased exposure ( i.e. potentiation of the blood thinning effect). The oral bioavailability of Pradaxa increases by 75% when the pellets are taken without the capsule shell compared to the intact capsule formulation. Pradaxa capsules should therefore not be broken, chewed, or opened before administration. This may be especially important in very old patients or those who have abnormal kidney function or who are taking medications that may interact with Pradaxa.
