Warts (teloulé) are small, benign skin growths caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). Warts grow on any part of the body. Common warts have a raised and rough surface on which tiny, dark dots can sometimes be seen. Warts may appear around the nails, on the fingers and on the backs of hands. Common warts never turn cancerous. They may bleed if injured.
Since warts are caused by a virus, they are contagious. Warts may spread from one area in the body to another, or to other people.
