Why bitting the tongue is so painful?
Dec 14, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
The fact that you accidentally bite your tongue while chewing (so you're unconsciously applying full force), add to that the fact that the tongue is highly supplied with nerves, are the most likely explanations.

Your jaw muscles ( the masseters ) are very powerful and all their power is transferred to your teeth ( small surface area ) which causes serious damage to the tongue or cheeks if you bite them accidentally.
