Cactus fruit, alors called prickly pear, has a range of health benefits, starting from blood sugar control, to lowering blood cholesterol, to relief of hangover symptoms, to treating sunburn, none of these benefits have been studied in large clinical trials. As for pregnancy and breastfeeding, no trials (at least none published) exist so far in the literature, that is why, medically speaking, we cannot recommend for or against it during pregnancy and lactation. A study to confirm its benefits and risks is indeed needed - although clinical trials in pregnant women are usually not a good idea in fear of causing harm inadvertently.
