What is iodine Starch Test? Where can I do it and what does it determine?
May 3, 2013

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
This test determines the presence/absence of iodine. For example, you put a few drops of Bétadine solution (iodine based) on the salt you use at home : if it turns blue it means the salt is enriched with iodine. Try it on a slice of raw potatoes or a banana.

Dr. Salim Saab Otolaryngology (ENT)
Starch-iodine test is when an iodine solution is applied to the sweaty area. After it dries, starch is sprinkled on the area. The starch-iodine combination turns a dark blue color wherever there is excess sweat. There are two kinds of Hyperhydrosis (excessive sweat): the Primary and the secondary. The primary is treated with BOTOX. You can do the test in your physician's clinic.
