Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
The fact that your pain occurs only occasionally is very reassuring. But it's better to rule out an organic cause of the pain. In a young and otherwise healthy individual, we would more likely think of costochondritis (inflammation of the cartilage at the points where the ribs insert into the chest bone; usually associated with tenderness upon touching the ribs), esophageal source (due to stomach acid reflux and probable inflammation), pancreatitis (from a viral infection, or from alcohol abuse), and much less likely based upon your background and history of symptoms a cardiac source. As such,I advise you to get checchecked by a physician for a routine physical, and have him/her do basic tests to rule out the above. If all turns out to be negative, then it could be stress and anxiety.
