I've been getting a burning sensation all over the body for almost a year. What could be the reason? My hands are also hurting.

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
The combination of diffuse burning sensation of the skin and bilateral (both sides) hand pain is suggestive of polyneuritis or peripheral polyneuropathy, which usually result from the inflammation of the peripheral nerves. Abnormal function of the autonomic nervous system (dysautonomia), the part of the nervous system that is responsible for controlling functions such as heart beat and digestion, may cause similar symptoms, though it's not likely to involve pain. Vitamin B12 deficiency, thyroid dysfunction, and rheumatologic conditions (such as connective tissue disorders and fibromyalgia) can also produce diffuse symptoms.
A more comprehensive evaluation in the doctor's office is inevitable to properly assess your condition and proceed with the correct management.
