For 4 years now I've been frequently going to the bathroom. Whatever I eat, 4 to 5 times per day! I have a runny stomach. What are the causes?

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Frequent bowel movements can be due to an infection (chronic infection, most likely parasitic "worms"), diarrhea-dominant irritable bowel syndrome (malfunction in the branch of the nervous system controlling the gut, causing constipation alternating with diarrhea, usually worse with stressful conditions), thyroid gland problem (over functional thyroid, with symptoms of heat intolerance, unintentional weight loss, nervousness and tremors), or malabsorption (fat or protein malabsorption, here stools are foul smelling and are oily in case of fat malabsorption). A less likely cause is short bowel syndrome (in case you've had a surgery that reduced the length of the intestines).
