Regula plus, is it safe to take it without doctor consultation? and what does it actualy do and how it works?
Jul 26, 2014

Dr. Rania Mousa General Medicine
Regula plus is a laxative(sennaside from senna plant) ,Senna is likely safe for most healthy adults when used short-term. it is nonprescription medicine. Senna can cause some side effects including stomach discomfort, cramps, and diarrhea.
BUT:
Logically a doctor prescription who will guide you for its necessity according to age ,condition and response to treatment and medicine interactions ,on other hand it is not recommended more than 7 days ,beside a doctor will treat the cause rather treating a symptom you have .
if you want to stop a constipation and you take the laxative and the underlined cause of your constipation is still present ,after stopping you will be constipating again ,and note the taking it more often will create a condition of a lazy intestine that depends on laxatives to work, it can cause the bowels to stop functioning normally and might cause dependence on laxatives. Long-term use can also change the amount or balance of some chemicals in the blood (electrolytes) that can cause heart function disorders, muscle weakness, liver damage, and other harmful effects.

there are many contraindications and precautions during taking it depending on a patient medical history and conditions
